Welcome back. In this episode, we're gonna go into our azure portal and take a look at a little bit of a demo of azure migrate.
00:07
My goal for this demo is for you to understand how to create an azure, my great project.
00:12
How to add tools to that project?
00:14
No. Where to go to download the assessment and migration appliances to install in your own premises environment.
00:20
Then finally understand some of the virtual machine migration blockers that you might run into during your migration project.
00:28
Enough of the slides for right now. Let's jump over to the demo.
00:32
Here we are back in our azure portal, and what we need to do is go access the azure, my great service and create a migration project was Click on All service is
00:42
search for Azure migrate.
00:50
Here in the Azure Migrate Overview page, you can see the couple of different options that we discuss the slides for migrating servers, database and Web. EPPS. Let's go ahead and assess and my great servers
01:02
to get started. We need to go in and add our server assessment and my great tools.
01:07
Go ahead and click on add tools
01:11
like all our other azure resource is select a subscription and a resource group. I've already created an azure migrate demo resource group, and we're gonna give our migration project a name
01:25
and then select a geography. Geography is just worthy. Migrated server metadata is going to be stored. You can still migrate your virtual machines into Azure into any other region that you see Fitz click on next.
01:38
And here is where we select our assessment tools. As mentioned, the primary one we're gonna focus on from Microsoft is the Azure Migrate server assessment. But there are several third party ones here available.
01:52
Let's choose as your migrate server assessment.
01:56
Let's click next to select our migration tool.
01:59
We're gonna select azure migrate server migration.
02:04
Finally, you can review your selections and click on add tools.
02:10
Once the tools are loaded, go ahead and select on. Discover inside the server assessment.
02:16
Here is where we have the option to download the on premises virtual appliance to do our assessment. The very first question you're gonna be asked here is are you machines virtualized and we have a couple of different options.
02:29
Yes, they're virtualized with Veum. Where or with hyper V Let's go. It's like to be in where for right now
02:35
you can see we have the option to download the azure migrate appliance. This is an O V. A. File. If you're not familiar with over files, they air pre built and pre configured virtual machines that you can easily import into your being. Where environment. Once the virtual appliance is deployed, you can then access the application
02:53
running on the virtual machine using a Web browser and begin the assessment configuration for your environment.
03:00
Once you've accessed the virtual appliance, you'll register with azure migrate by signing, then with the user name and password. Once the virtual appliance is registered, it can start discovery of your Veum wear environment
03:12
and the virtual machine Information will start to be populated here in our azure portal.
03:19
Once we have the assessment data ready, let's go down and take a look at our server migration tool.
03:24
Let's click on Discover
03:29
here again. It's gonna prompt us if our machines are virtualized, and this time we have 1/3 option for saying not virtualized or other.
03:35
This would be for on premises physical servers.
03:39
Once that selected, we need to choose a target region that we're gonna migrate to
03:46
and confirm that selection.
03:53
Once the region is confirmed, we have to select the option of what type of replication appliance we're going to be deploying
04:00
for. Smaller migrations will install a single replication appliance. But there is an option for installing a scale out appliance for larger migration projects. Let's just choose Install a replication appliance,
04:12
and here we'll get a screen very similar to the one we saw earlier for the assessment server. We have the option of downloading and installing the replication appliance software and registering it to our project here. Now, I'm not able to complete a lot of this, but I just wanted to show you where you can find these options to get started for your own server migration project. Let's go back out
04:31
to our migration Goals server menu
04:35
back in our server menu here. Let's go ahead and select one Replicate
04:44
here. We'll choose what type of machines were wanting to migrate, whether they are virtualized with being where hyper V or not virtualized.
04:51
And when you select one of these, you will need to select the on purpose appliance that you already deployed to assist with the migration Now, like I mentioned, I don't have any on premises appliances to demo right now. But if we look at our menu here up at the top, we'll see the virtual machines that discovered
05:06
configure those targets settings that we mentioned in our slides,
05:11
configure, compute discs and start our replication
05:16
Next in our project. If we were to select overview,
05:23
this is where we could also configure our replication and also perform the test migration that I mentioned in the slides as well. This will verify if your settings and target resources are ready for the migration. And then finally, in Step three, finalize your migration to Azure of your virtual machines
05:40
and then finally, over here on the left under manage is where we could goes to see the status of the machines being replicated so we can find any issues and trouble shoot them as needed.
05:51
Now, back in the slides in the previous episode, I mentioned the assessment Tool is gonna identify whether or not you're on premises. Virtual machines are ready to migrate to Azure, I mentioned some things may be incompatible, like operating system versions or disc being too large that don't fit a virtual machine profile.
06:10
I wanted to highlight this article that talks about the requirements for azure virtual machines.
06:15
We scroll down here to the bottom. We can look at Azure Veum requirements.
06:20
This is going to highlight some of those things we need to watch out for such a CZ, the guest operating system making sure it is supported in Azure,
06:29
the guest operating system architecture, which only supports 64 bit
06:33
as well as the OS Desai's up to two terabytes.
06:38
Another one, I'd like to point out is that migrating a server enabled with bit locker is not supported. So you must disable that before you start replicating it into Azure.
06:50
Something else I would recommend reviewing is the trouble. Shoot as you're my great article here.
06:56
The portion of this article I would focus on is fixing assessment readiness.
07:03
This portion of the article is gonna highlight some other assessment Ready miss issues that you'll need to resolve before you can migrate to Azure, such as an unsupported boot type
07:14
again unsupported Windows operating systems,
07:16
unknown operating systems
07:21
Onley supporting 64 bit
07:26
or potentially having this sizes that are too big. Let's jump back to the slides and wrap this up.
07:32
Coming up next. We're gonna take a look at Azure site recovery. See you in the next episode.
