Welcome to the county A A plus 2 to +0-1001 module to this is less than 3.5 troubleshooting and installing RAM stalling RAM and recognizing problems that can occur, if not a stall correctly. I'm instructor Bill Price. So our lesson objectives for this lesson is Ram
Installing the Ram and troubleshooting RAM. So let's go and jump right in.
So first to start off a Little Ram installation overview.
Now, one of the easiest embrace that she could make to your system is installing. We're increasing the ram nine times, Tim times. This is going to be the only reason that you're gonna be inside of going inside of your case. Except for if you were adding in a hard dry or change your hard drive or other ad on cards like a nick carpeting thing like that.
For the most part, the most time that you're gonna be inside of your case is
installing memory are upgrading your memory. So before you start your insulation, make sure that you consult your motherboard manufactured to make sure what type and how much ram your motherboard could take. You don't want to get into a problem, layer, not knowing for sure and going into the insulation on Lee to find out that it does not work with your motherboard.
Eso again consult your motherboard manufactured to make sure
what type of ram that your sister can take before order yet and installing, of course. So let's go ahead and jump into the lab and I will be installing a RAM module in a desktop motherboard as well as a mobile device. So let's go and jump in and have a look over in the lab.
Okay, so here we go with our mother board here in the test lab,
and I'm gonna show you how to install a sticker ram into our motherboard.
So what you want to do is you want to go directly on top of the slots in the stall, your ram that way So we'll see the slot side that I have right here that I'm gonna be installing my bank around in this first slot right here. And you could notice that the tabs are are down,
but watch when we insert the ramp. So again, we're gonna take the round and gonna go straight in just this way,
fitted into the grooves, making sure that again. You've already checked your mother board, manufacturers, paperwork and documentation. So you know you have the right type of RAM to go under if that will fit your motherboard. And, as you can see here, mimes, memories, module
lines up with my slots on my month board. If you want to zoom in and
look at that, you can see that those slots lined up.
So we want to go straight in
making sure that's aligned, and we press the moment memory module straight in, just like that on as we push that in. You can see that on the side here that these taps phone in and locked the memory module in place so before they were down, But when you pressed him a memory module in,
they close in and make sure that there
they're locked in so that memory module is ready to go. So let's do that again. So I wanna pull these tabs down just like this, and like so and I slapped my memory out so those tabs lock that memory module in place. So again I go straight down into those slots
lining My Mary Ma, Julian and I press and those taps locked at memory module in place. So we've just installed a stick of ram into our motherboard,
and we're ready to go toe to add additional memory modules. Or if that's all the memory that we're adding, we're done. And just a simple is that
troubleshooting steps here. If you were to boot your computer up and, of course, put a monitor and keyboard and power supply on his motherboard and you booted up and see that it doesn't recognize the memory module, then you know it's probably not seated correctly.
You probably didn't get those clicks. That memory modules not all the way in the slot.
It could be just a few other things. It could be the wrong type if you didn't consult your manufacturers Motherboard documentation. If this was the only ram in this board early memory module on this board and you did not seek this properly,
your computer will give you a warning signal. Ah, warning tone, and we learned about those in earlier lessons.
The bios beat coats when you boot up your system. All manufacture systems have some type of system of letting you know if something is wrong with the M. The memory if they do not read the memory correctly or some type of system information letting you know what type of and how much memory that you do have in your motherboard.
Okay, so what if I was installing a memory module to a mobile device such as this laptop right here?
It's pretty much the same straightforward set up, but it may be a little bit differences, depending on the manufacturer of your of your air of your mobile device on this laptop right here, you can see that I have the battery move. And on this particular model, there is a compartment here at the bottom of the laptop that the memory is installed in
some laptops. You may have to remove the entire board here at the bottom, but this particular model, we're just gonna be removing this door right here.
So it's too simple screws that I will be removing off, like so
Okay, there you have it. That is the memory model that's inside of that laptop there, and what you want to do on these laptops. And if you can see, they're still those two tabs of two notches a little bit differently on a laptop that it is on a desktop, but it's too still the same principle.
There's a notch here, not here, and they hold these
memory models in place. And if you remember from our earlier lesson that this is the S o dim or the sodium, so those two notches are holding that in place. So if I wanted to remove or it's that install Mlle. Or I would take these two notches and pullem
apart like that and you can see that the memory module raises up, you would remove the old module and replace it with the new module. Just like that,
get it into the correct slot in the groove.
Like such press down and knows, too. Not just right there holds that memory mountain place, and of course, you would replace your door. Put your battery back in in butcher laptop, and after you put it up again, you will
still check the the operating system to make sure it recognized your memory. But straightforward, simple.
I'm very simple to do as far as installing Maur memory into your laptop or mobile device.
Okay, so now that we've installed the memory modules into our devices, like I said before, a lot of systems, a modern systems on the market now will be able you to be able to go into the U. E f I bios to see your memory.
Your memory is far as if it was taken us so forth, and it were registered here as well as the operating system. You could go into the operating system on any modern operating system like Windows 10 Windows seven, even the earlier
Windows operating systems or other operating systems into to tell you how much ram that you do have now installed into that particular system. RAM installation tips Consult your motherboard manufactured for your systems RAM type and limitations. Again, I can't stress enough. This is very, very important that you do consult your manufacture of your motherboard
against make sure what type of ram and its limitations
lineup the notches on the notch on the Ram module to the socket. Make sure it lines up. Make sure that you're am is fully installed or seeded, and that the channels are properly field and again, we learned from our earlier lessons about channels. Sometimes you have to, depending on your motherboard type and manufacturer. Match your channels.
So if you're some channels, maybe a B C D and maybe a,
B, B, C, C, D, d, and so forth where maybe 010 to 03 and depending on the configuration, if you had a dual channel triple channel, you'd have that install matching sets of RAM to in the B Channel two in the Sea Channel and so forth.
So make sure that the channels are properly field. That's Ah, Number one problem.
Our main problem that can happen to us far is when you have problems with your system down the starting ram, or you may get beat Coats watch when your system boot up to see if the system was properly installed again. When you or it may
and boot up and you may see that you were trying to start 32 gig and only see 16. What happened to the other 16?
You would have to go back in, shut the system down and go back in to see if it was properly seated or it could have been a speed. Mitch Max or something like that. Okay, Troubleshooting ram installations. Every modern system will have a way of displaying the amount of RAM in your system. Like I said, if it's either in the bios for the operating system,
it will show you the amount of RAM that you have installed at the current moment.
If you're not seeing the amount of RAM that you installed most of the time, it's a simple installation air. It could be a channel problem. Like I said before, it could be mismatched or not properly field. It could be a speed issue, meaning the rated speeds of the memory Mountains may be different or mismatch, so make sure you check that as well.
Or it could be that the RAM module is not properly seated
any of the If any of these problems happened, check your installation and make sure that your ram is seated properly.
Okay, so that was a quick lesson. Where we installed RAM into our motherboard, we installed it into a and just motherboard as well as a mobile device, a laptop. So we start off with a ram installation, will review installing the Ram and troubleshooting the Ram installations.
So that is it for this lesson, and we will see you in the next lesson.
