00:04
Hello and welcome to Cyberia T.
00:06
My name is Greg W. Stuart, and I'm your subject matter expert for Lynn Exports.
00:10
Now that we have the introduction of the way we need to go through some of the things that we need to set up in order of this course to be successful
00:17
first. And obviously you need to be on a either Windows are
00:22
or a Mac computer that will allow you to have Internet access. Obviously, if you're watching this, you have Internet access.
00:29
These are just general housekeeping items. Also, what you want to do is to be able to have a place that you can install a Lennox distribution. You can pretty much choose whatever one you want. My suggestion would be to go with the bun to distribution simply because that's what I'll be using throughout the class will make it easier to keep up
00:49
to follow along and understand what's going on
00:52
now. So it's not super difficult to come across. Ah, links to Stroh, especially 12 There's a couple different ways you can do it. You have to have at least
01:02
either a desktop that you can use to install it on or an old laptop or, if you want, when you go to install. If you install a bun too and burn it onto a disk, burn the ice so to a disk
01:14
and placed in your CV. Wrong, dr you have. You'll have the option to run it as a live version of LeBron to. And what the live version means is, you're not actually partitioning anything on your hard drive to store this or install 12 You're just running
01:29
like a demo environment, something that doesn't even touch your hard drive. It's only it's fully contained inside the CD. Wrong,
01:36
um, the upsides of that. Or that it's quick. There's no install time. It just drops you right into a bun to desktop. There's no passwords and usernames to remember. However. The downfall on the bad side of it is that you can't really
01:49
manipulate a lot of the operating system. That's kind of that's kind of our goal throughout this course is to get our get our hands on it, understand what it does, what, what what what it can do. Understand what the file structure is like, adding users to leading users setting up printing
02:06
so I would suggest that you do one of two things fine old desktop that you could install it on for the time being.
02:13
You can even go out and find an old Dell or something on Craig's list. If you want to spend Ah, 100 bucks or so 150
02:20
um, something. You just plug into a monitor keyboard mouse and you know you'll be in business.
02:24
Or conversely, you can actually go out, install BMR workstation or view more effusion.
02:31
And what those will allow you to do is actually build a virtual machine with *** unto as the operating system. So if I go to Of'em were dot com for slash workstation,
02:42
this gives us the more work. Station 11
02:45
on what this is is it's hosted hyper visor, which is gonna get installed on top of your Windows machine,
02:52
which is different from just your bare metal hyper visor, which you're gonna install directly on top of the server hardware. This this requires a host,
02:59
so this software will I create virtual machines, which are basically just a set of files that will be on your in your file structure of your computer,
03:07
and it will play back that virtual machine and you can interact with it, make changes, saves, saves the state of it. You can create snapshots.
03:15
This is good, for if you're downloading stuff that you're a little unsure if you can actually create a snapshot before you download it,
03:22
and then should there should something happen and you invited Trojan horse or some malware virus, you can actually just delete that snapshot over to old clean state.
03:31
So I highly suggest that you go with the Empire Workstation. So you have. I mean, there's a couple options. Now, the more work station. Let me just,
03:38
um, say this first this for PC on Lee. Okay,
03:44
so you can go to try for free trying. Trying for free will give you You could download here, give you just about. I think it's a 30 day trial. It might be a 68 trial.
03:53
Um, or if you go back, you can actually just purchase it. I was suggestions purchasing it slightly pricey.
04:00
Um, let's see what it is.
04:02
Yes, 250 bucks, which is, you know, it's fairly expensive. Little bit of change to spend.
04:08
However, it's gonna give you a great environment to build and test things. And if you're a true geek and I t guy, you wanna have something like this workstation or some other type of
04:17
hosted hyper visor that you can play with virtual machines and just on your own desktop, you can only you can build your own little mini lab inside of work station.
04:26
If you're interested in playing around a bunch of different Lennox stuff are even VM where Windows you can build. Just let me be M that you want,
04:32
so you have a couple options here. You can do that, or maybe you have an older version. You can upgrade it. It's a little bit less. Or there's even a pro version with a bunch of other.
04:43
Um, this is a This is Veum or player view more players. Another option doesn't give you as much. Let's take a look at it, though.
04:56
Be a more player.
04:59
So again you can try for free.
05:01
Or you can buy it for its. You know, this is just bare bones stuff. Okay,
05:06
requires 64 minute processor and 64 bit host operating system.
05:11
Okay,
05:12
excuse you. 30 days of complimentary support. There's just you just have to decide what you really want it. You're gonna invest
05:18
in, uh, spending time building the EMS. I was just going workstation.
05:23
Otherwise, you can just go bare bones to Give'em or player
05:27
again with the Amore Player. You could actually do a free trial.
05:30
Try it for free.
05:31
You know, download the version that you need.
05:34
Good to go. Now, if you're a Mac guy like myself, you're not gonna go with, uh, work station. You're actually gonna go with fusion. So let's take a look at fusion on believe it's It's a little bit cheaper, but it zat less fuel less features the work station
05:53
11
05:54
uh, fusion.
05:57
So if you were a fusion,
05:59
uh, you know the advertising room windows in your mac you can, But you can also run a limits on your Mac. So it's kind of already running a baseline version of Colonel of Linen.
06:06
But you could run basically operating system you want on your Mac inside of BM where fusion.
06:13
So again you got the option to try for free. If you currently have fusion, an older version, you want upgrade or you can buy it.
06:19
I believe it's only about 70 at 70 bucks 69 99.
06:24
So there's some really good options for you to get get started with, uh, with Lennox, you're gonna have to do one of these two really fall along and get the most out of this class.
06:32
So again, you want to
06:34
go out and find an old whole PC that you can play with.
06:38
We want to make sure you can get either workstation infusion something you can get your hands on and do some really good lab work on a new bun to image or like,
06:46
ah, like clinics. Destro. So let's, uh,
06:49
let's go to a bun, too dot com.
06:55
This is where I went to get mine.
06:57
My version of bun, too
06:59
again, Completely free. Okay,
07:01
you have a couple of options here. They have a really snappy website.
07:04
It's good. Yes, is ready for smartphones.
07:08
Go here. Downloaded bun to up the top is much different versions and stuff that you can look at him.
07:14
Take a look at. We'll let you do that on your own,
07:16
but we're just gonna go ahead and click on this. Download a bun to link.
07:20
It's completely free to download and use and share. So you're welcome again to make copies of this and share with your friends. They are fully expecting that you would do that. And it's open source software. So
07:32
have at it.
07:34
But for the sake of this class, you just want to go to download one to desktop, okay?
07:40
Ah, bunch of server, if you want. I wouldn't go mess with the bun to cloud. Let's just keep it simple and do a bunch of desktop.
07:46
But this will give you the best opportunities Thio to get your hands in the class. So if you go to download will tell you here,
07:54
um, have you picked 64 bit?
07:57
32 less than two gigabytes. Iran go with 64 bit. I don't I don't know. Many of us out there still are on 32 bit offering systems,
08:05
so let's stick with 64 bit if you have the hardware to support it, okay? And you just gonna click download here. Okay,
08:11
Um and then it'll start downloading. So I'm gonna go ahead and minimize that
08:16
I've already downloaded installed in my femur workstation,
08:18
which is this icon here. Stubble. Cook it to launch
08:24
and what we're looking at is being your workstation. And this is, uh this is work Station 10. We go in my home tab
08:31
when you get to the point where you have your
08:35
your ah winnicks destro downloaded when you've got a bun to download and you're ready to start installing it in, Ah, either on your
08:43
PC that you have lying around. Oren, you're more likely in your hyper visor that you have here. What you're gonna do is you're gonna go here to the start, page you to create a new virtual machine.
08:54
It's a wizard, walks you through it next to say it's the same for fusion. That's wizard's pretty much identical.
09:00
It already knows that I have it installed, and I have it on my file system already. It knows that I have the soup onto my so
09:09
I'm using virtual clone Dr To Mount as I so so I don't have to actually burn it to a disk.
09:13
But you could burn to a disk to run the live version, if you wish.
09:18
So if it's seen my see my eye. So here in my version of linens,
09:22
you asked me to go next
09:24
and then I'm just gonna go through and I'm gonna give it a name.
09:28
Well, you guys select how much ran memory want? That's all. I mean, it depends on your system. I give it just baseline to gigs around in a 40 gig hard drive.
09:37
If you have the space, otherwise, bring it down. Limits. What? I mean, being more will actually show you recommend recommendations.
09:43
Um, stick with the recommendations that you can If you have to go a little bit lower, that's fine, too. But your performance is going to suffer a little,
09:50
but it's probably not gonna matter so much for this test, cause we're not gonna do any really heavy
09:54
computing for this class. She's gonna be more hands on lab stuff or you can follow along trying on your own, et cetera.
10:00
So we're not gonna walk through the entire installation cause I already did that, But you get the idea. It's just a wizard. There's nothing.
10:09
There's nothing we don't need to do. An entire module on installation. I'm just kind of walk you through this set up how to get to the point where
10:16
you feel comfortable with the, uh with having it ready and available. She can follow. Close this out.
10:22
Mm. I've got my a bunch of'em right here. Sorry. Open a tab
10:28
here.
10:28
You can see here that I've actually actually gave it. Four gigs. Ram, one processor, 20 gig hard disk.
10:35
It just depends on what you're doing. I don't do a whole lot with this p m. So I keep it pretty loves. I don't want
10:41
You have to understand that when you're doing these hyper visors. If you When I power up this coupon toothy em, it's now pulling on the Reese my physical resource for my laps off.
10:48
So if I'm trying to multi task and do other things, it kind of makes it a little difficult at times, it can slow things down if you're,
10:56
you know, minimizing your V m and go into your window side and trying to do stuff. You get a little sticky. And I'm only running eight gigs of RAM on this laptop.
11:03
No, my MCA have 16 gigs. It's not as much of an issue, but here I'm running on the ageless. It's this one. The power of the sun is gonna take half of the ran. That I'm already using
11:13
a za reservation going forward.
11:16
I'm going to show you some of the other stuff
11:18
it's collecting. Showing is connected to my DVD drive. My network adaptor just gonna share my network connection
11:24
sharing all the U S. The physical us beads, sound card, furniture displays, all the detecting baseline stuff. So I'm gonna go ahead and I'm gonna power this virtual machine on. You're gonna be able to see firsthand what it looks like It is booting up.
11:39
Okay,
11:41
It's now Veum, where has loaded it?
11:43
It's gonna start booting just as if it was on a physical machine.
11:48
Right.
11:48
This is kind of go through his own post parents. Self test is pretty snack.
11:54
And immediately it brings you to your your Lennox admin. This is just a
12:00
This is the name I gave it. So I'm gonna go ahead and go full screen this, you guys to seal it better.
12:07
Okay,
12:09
so, uh, we're full screen on here, all right? And, uh,
12:13
I'm gonna go ahead and
12:15
see here, see if I can make this a bigger
12:28
See if I could pop out, the council may be blown up
12:45
full screen.
12:46
All right. This is. This would be good for now. All right, so this is basically my log on pages, you can see there's no control of the league
12:52
through Bunty, a raft bad, stiffer from windows.
12:56
But it's got a really sharp, nice looking presentation.
13:00
So for this, I just stick with super easy guys and girls. When I do this, I just create
13:05
lower case P A S s W O R d.
13:09
When I'm doing, you know,
13:11
just test stuff. I don't care if anybody hacks this virtual machine. There's nothing interesting on it,
13:22
all right? It's still loading up, seeing on the screen resolution here to catch up.
13:28
Basically, what you're looking at
13:30
is who won two of the desktop.
13:35
Jay, there's a thing called on the left. Here, you're gonna have a doc. It's just standard. You can play around that doc and
13:41
making how you want, etcetera, etcetera. I don't ever mess with it.
13:45
Um, you goto a bunch of software centers is technically kind of like the Mac App store
13:52
with Windows App store. There's different kind of abs that you can get purchased.
13:56
Oh,
13:58
down here on the left. There's games, graphics different of the science
14:01
on it's It's fairly nice layout. I mean, has a bunch of stuff that you can play with. Download books and magazines, developer tools of your developer.
14:09
You can search and see what's been installed.
14:13
There's not gonna be a
14:15
shouldn't be a ton of stuff. It's been installed.
14:18
Um, this shows you all the things that are installed. Terminal is gonna be the most important tool that you're going to use.
14:24
Um, somebody go ahead. And, uh,
14:28
let me take a look at that,
14:30
Sten. Rolling it here to the
14:31
to the toolbar.
14:35
Um just tells you what it is
14:37
closed out
14:41
and let's check. This year,
14:43
it's changed the desktop background didn't give us a
14:46
bitterly how?
14:54
There we go.
14:54
So you can see just like Windows are right. Clicked on the background here
15:00
and went to change that stop background,
15:03
uh, gives you a bunch of different options. Some people like to put, you know, pictures and whatnot.
15:09
Just once you see the picture that you like, you double click and you see this. Look,
15:13
we look similar to a Mac guess background.
15:18
I like to just keep it with the
15:18
Grady and color here.
15:22
That's good. There's different bunch, different options. Pictures.
15:24
He needs your pictures, folder colors and Grady INS problem
15:30
behavior. You can mess with the behavior a little bit. Don't really need to see more of a personal thing. If you If you start to use Lennox a lot more and you're really getting into it, you could start messing with the behavior of the and the feel of the desktop.
15:41
I just leave. It has to fall for now.
15:45
Um,
15:46
and then there's all settings. Does your system settings basically says, goes your displays. What kind of resolution and keyboards Mice
15:54
just like in Windows, Look at the same kind of layout here. Or Mac. Even this looks actually allow more like Mac. And I just want just obviously,
16:02
um, Bluetooth. We've got blue to stuff the sound sound car stuff, user accounts.
16:07
Um, let's take a look at her user accounts
16:11
right now. The only account on this machine is Lennox Admin. This is just your route, user. Okay?
16:15
And, uh, you don't really need to build another counselor. We're gonna work on building some accounts so you can get an idea of how to
16:23
create user accounts and Lennox and get an idea of what you what you can do to
16:29
to build them out. But this is pretty much pretty much every user accounts for no.
16:33
Um, obviously there's, ah, a lawless minimize this.
16:42
Obviously, there's, Ah, Firefox there, right? Fire fuss. Click on Firefox. It'll open up the Web browser,
16:51
and again, you have to remember that this virtual machine is sharing your Internet connection
16:56
so it doesn't have its ups on. Your connection is just piggybacking. You know, they can go here, too.
17:02
Call.
17:03
Yeah,
17:04
so nothing. Nothing interesting
17:07
if we go further down leaving office
17:11
this is there a free, open source version of
17:15
of Windows when I started out of Windows. But like Microsoft Word,
17:22
it's just Ah, it's ah, you know, word processor that's really similar to a word. I mean, you got all your fonts here.
17:29
There's a bunch of funds on. You know your styles. You can pig
17:33
different headings. It's really good, and it's free time. And what happens is when you e mailed this to somebody that doesn't have library office. Maybe they're working on a PC or a Mac, but they have when they have, ah, Microsoft Word this will actually convert open up into a word without any issues. So,
17:49
I mean, feel free to use it if you could get past it. Not being Microsoft Word than this is totally free. Doesn't require continual license or
17:57
upgrades or anything else. So pretty cool stuff.
18:00
Um,
18:02
close up saving.
18:03
Move it further down. Get your library office, which is your exists, like, excel. Just like excel.
18:10
Um, I mean, these linens guys air
18:12
are sighing and rolling their eyes right now. They'd be dying if I heard them comparing it to excel. But, I mean, it is what it isjust like. Excel, same functions.
18:21
You can do mathematical functions in here. You can create a spreadsheet.
18:25
He's simple stuff.
18:26
Um,
18:29
And then let's say you do. You have it, but you have an application, but you actually don't know where it is, and you want to search for it.
18:37
Um,
18:37
you know, it's not that you don't have it in here if you click this right here. This is your like your search. Like launchpad.
18:42
It immediately opens up like a search window. And what it has here the most frequently visited things that I have in my limits machine. Okay, So have Amazon, obviously, and do a lot of shopping on Amazon. Amazon Prime is awesome.
18:56
Text editor is just like you're no pad
19:00
terminal is gonna be
19:02
the main thing you're gonna be going to in this course. So what I do is I'll take this terminal and I'm gonna I'm gonna dock it over here.
19:10
There it is now a stock, so I could just get to it quickly.
19:14
Thunderbird mail. This is a male male client. Come like outlook. Same kind of deal. You could set it up to receive mail. It's just their own client. It's That's pretty pretty cool. Actually, it's pretty clean looking. I like it a lot.
19:23
Calculator videos, rhythm box, players of Bunches version of, like, iTunes that can't you.
19:29
So as much different things you can do. I mean, if you just type in
19:33
protectively bray office
19:34
gives me all of my lead bray
19:37
options. Okay?
19:40
Whether well, you can send it up
19:42
to have it look exactly like you want.
19:45
J close that.
19:47
So that's Ah, that's it for an introduction to what do you want to desktop is, um, we're not going to really focus a whole lot on installation in this module, but I just wanted to give you a
20:00
an idea. It's having a look at this and see the look and feel of it.
20:04
Help you to understand where to go to get a hyper hosted hyper visor or explain how you can do it. Otherwise, with a live CD line version of that one, too.
20:12
We're actually going out and getting a cheap old PC that you could just throw bun to learn. Play around with it.
20:18
Either way, this is Ah, this is just a good, good introduction of what a bun too looks like. And Lennox and how it feels etcetera. And we're gonna get a lot more in depth on it as we go throughout the rest of this course. But this is just kind of your your your opener. So your opening act for for Lennox.
20:34
So I hope you enjoyed that help. You have a good idea of what to do. Take some time to go out. If you haven't and download coupon to our like version of it, want to destroy
20:45
and play around on, figure out what it is, get it set up so that we were ready to do some more hands on stuff and examples and practical applications
20:52
from you won't have to pause and take so long to get it set up.
20:56
So let's not further do. Let's go on to the next section.
