File Server Resource Manager Role This lesson covers the file server resource manager role. File servers are designed to store data, but as any kind of data can be stored there, it can be overwhelming. System administrators need to be able to manage that environment and control what users do. This lab-based lesson offers step by step instructions in how to add a role and feature to the file server using the role based installation wizard. The file server allows us to control quotas and do reporting relative to the file server environment.

every system. Admin knows the importance of Avala Server also knows that it's one of the banes of their existence.
00:22
File servers are designed to store data. Unfortunately, for all the system admin, the file servers treated as a unending story source for any kind of file that's ever been done anywhere, personal or business, so well we want to be able to do, a CIS admits, is to manage that environment
00:40
control What I used to do, it takes him and make sure that they don't just randomly do what they want to do.
00:46
First, we're going to do for our file server is one actually add
00:50
a role. So we're gonna add a role in future in here so quick on managing that rules and features underserved Manager for file server,
00:59
we click on next
01:00
role based. That is correct.
01:03
We click on next.
01:06
We'll just let the server when I do this with you could do with our local server or were they were good silver Quick next
01:12
and we're going to
01:14
change our foul. The storage service is to include
01:19
So we expanded out and we expanded out again. We're extra good to include on this one, the file server Resource Manager
01:26
servers we made a resource manager has a few features to include. So go ahead. Dad does
01:33
next
01:36
got next because you don't need any additional features and click on install,
01:41
and it will go through the process installing the role that we just put the file several research manager. Let's just control Cota's in defile screening and reporting relative to our file server environment is very important to understand what we're trying to accomplish. We're trying to make sure that a uses don't store things we don't want to the store
02:00
be that they don't just
02:02
have a gun in this endless supply of storage space.
02:07
Although storage, you could argue, has gotten less expensive in terms of commoditized storage of the hard drives,
02:14
it's still a little bit more expensive. We're talking about a sand environment, which most of the organizations out there will be using some type of a sand
02:22
so no foul sever. We actually get this installed, and after getting installed, we're going to go through and configure the basic parts of the file server and then beyond that, we're actually gonna do a couple lessons in terms of managing with that false ever. All right, so installation succeeded. We're done with that.
02:40
That kind of close.
02:43
We're gonna open up our vows. Silver Resource Manager Council now so back into our tools menu
02:50
for our server.
02:51
We're going to open up that file server resource manager
02:58
and what's it opens? Let's go ahead,
03:00
get it resized to our
03:02
preferred size on our screen.
03:06
And let's take a look at it.
03:07
We have found every Resource Manager local, and we could also connect to a different found several file server, and he's found several research manager with it.
03:15
We could manage it
03:17
file screening management, storage reports, classifications, image, file management task, which will go over
03:23
in addition lessons. But for right now, let's take a look at the file server itself
03:29
and right click and configure our options and that file server.
03:32
So, Greg, look, I could figure options,
03:35
and I'll bring up a window with a lot of information in here, so it's information
03:39
would be populated with whatever we want to put in there. And so we actually have some information here, pre populated, and we'll show you the power show that environment that you used to do that. Free population and including things like a file screen audit record this final screen activity. Automatic classifications. We could enable the schedule, and we get
03:59
doing access. Denied assistance of someone, but it gives it access to die. Message we have. They have assistants, information,
04:04
notification, limits, storage reports and report locations. So these air all of our basic,
04:12
that apply globally across our environment, then we actually want to get back to our
04:17
leave me out. Notifications here, Abel.
04:20
Actually, we could send a testy meal here for a jacket, but right now, we're gonna actually go ahead and click on, okay, here.
04:28
And if you wanted to do this for a power, show your clothes out of your
04:30
about service Resource manager here
04:32
goes out of that and bring up your power shelf.
04:35
So we're gonna show you how to figure those some of those options with power cell so good, and launch your power show
04:43
in 1/2 hour show. We're going to run a commandment to do some of things that we were just talking about. Doing
04:48
darker really is going to be setting a setting. So let's start with the second man so set Dash that What are we sending? Were seven f s r m setting.
05:00
There you go. And put in that. And the next stuff we need to do is what seven? Wanna set
05:04
those set? The Master SMTP server said S O S m t p
05:11
added reverts to server. So
05:13
server
05:14
that we need to tell it
05:15
what server is are sent to be sober and in quotation marks who put the name of silver L O N
05:20
Dash S V R. One quotation
05:25
and we move on there to our next argument. Or so we want to have a email address for
05:31
the administrator. So the
05:33
admin
05:35
email address
05:38
You did that all out,
05:40
and you put in quotes
05:43
the admin email address to 20 years.
05:46
So that would be what we're seeing in here. So do I
05:48
file admin
05:50
at
05:50
a datum
05:53
dot com
05:55
so that we have set up and we also wanted to have a
05:59
from so who's the source of the e mail that we received.
06:02
So when they had a from email, I just
06:06
from
06:09
email address.
06:13
There you go
06:14
dead. We were put in the same address. So it's coming
06:17
two to them from them. Remember, we would actually have
06:21
normally
06:23
the organization with any
06:26
number of six admissions, we might actually have a distribution
06:30
email that we use for the two. And the from email address would still be the same we're doing here. So we're gonna
06:35
do
06:36
bio
06:39
admin at
06:41
a datum
06:42
dot com
06:44
and notice it's in quotes Also.
06:46
So we have
06:47
setting.
06:48
We set The f s are upsetting the S. A T V server is our local server.
06:53
The admin email address is
06:56
file admin at 18 dot com and the from email address is the same thing.
07:01
And then you would hit, Enter
07:03
it will execute the power shows
07:06
command, Let's in the power cell environment
07:09
and it will load that information into our f S m A. F s our environment, which we actually looked at earlier, and that that we had
07:17
already seen that it will ultimately
07:20
in our efforts are of environment. Give us
07:24
the
07:26
configuration settings
07:28
that we previously had decided we were going to implement. So we go back and we right click on efforts are M and configure options.
07:36
These are the settings that would have just put in our SMTP server. So that's on TV.
07:41
It are
07:42
default admin recipients
07:45
and our default from email address.
07:47
And there's been the items that we actually selected to put in there that gets us
07:51
the basic configurations of our file server. Additional lessons. We will actually talk about managing storage quarters, a managing file screening with our file server.
