Hi, guys. Welcome to lean six Sigma Green Belt. I'm Katherine MacGyver, and I'm so excited to see you guys again. This is our getting started. So let's go ahead and jump right in. For those of you who don't remember me from yellow Belt, um, I am a lean six Sigma master. Black votes. So that's the highest level
00:19
of certification you can get in Lean and Six Sigma.
00:22
I have about 10 years. Experience is a lean six Sigma practitioner. So I actually got my master black boat nine years ago and have been doing it for a little bit longer because much like you, I started a degree mill and worked my way up, so ah, little over 10 years. There's actually a picture later on, you can see what that looks like.
00:40
My professional specialty is actually focused on the creation and the development of lean six Sigma programs.
00:46
So what that means is I help organizations that want lean six Sigma programs to build. There's when you learn when you earn your master black about, you are required to take a professional specialty, and mine was more in the building and creating side of things I do also have an MBA in entrepreneurship,
01:04
so I can speak a little bit more to some of the business side of things, and I am working on a doctorate in business administration. I actually
01:12
my my my focus area for that is going to be on chaos and complexity and organizations, which marries really well with lean six sigma.
01:21
So throughout the lean six Sigma green belt. At the end of it, you should be able to apply the fundamentals of lean six Sigma much the projects and departments. So this is going to be a little bit bigger than just a project based focus. You'll be able to use terminology so you can create that common language will talk a little bit more.
01:41
I'm in one of our upcoming modules.
01:42
You'll be able to lead continuous improvement projects, so greenbelt tends to be a tools belt where you have that you get kind of your your repertoire of things so that you can start getting to the results in your project. So if you remember in Yellow Belt, we talked a lot about the domestic model,
02:01
the green belts really going to fill that in with the tools so you could facilitate to that, um, that successful solution.
02:10
You'll also be able to facilitate deeper identification of waste and value and non value Add in your department's. This should not be a surprise to you. After Yellow Belt, I expect all of you toe have downtime tattooed on your inner arm when you're identifying waste, and then you'll also be able to coach basically in 16 with principles in your department.
02:30
So what that means is you'll be able to speak to these principles and help your department and your colleagues
02:35
understand how they can integrate it into their daily work as well. Um, the best people to take these classroom. My target audience is you. Whoever you are. Generally the target audience for Green Belt are business leaders.
02:50
So these were going to be managers, directors, executives, process owners or business subject matter experts. So these are going to be the people who are really the pros
02:59
at getting the work done. Green Boat starts creating a foundation for you to be a process improvement analyst, so if you decide that you really, really love this, you'll leave this course and be able to accept those positions as process improvement analysts or pursue those.
03:15
It's also really great for analysts or staff who support business decisions. There's quite a bit of data driven decision making that starts bubbling up. We do quite a bit more here in Green Belt.
03:23
Then we did in Yellow Boat and then anyone who's interested in lean six Sigma. I'm specifically the tools and principles because, like I said, Greenbelt really is a tools course where you're going to start being equipped to walk away from here and lead your own projects.
03:39
So there are a few prerequisites on this class. Your first prerequisite is the Sai Buri lean six sigma yellow belt. It must be the Sai Buri course, and the reason why is when I created the Yellow Belt, I wanted to give you guys the ability to walk away from that course
04:00
and have something actionable right away to do.
04:01
Where is more traditional? Yellow belts tend to be very focused on theories and ideas. So with that in your yellow belt from cyber, you learned a little bit of greenbelt stuff, and we kind of glossed over some of the some of the deeper ideologies that will go into in this course. So really,
04:18
it's kind of like a cyber a shar twos course. At this point,
04:23
you have no book requirement in this course I'm and mighty. My thoughts for that are that there are so many lean six Sigma books out there. I mean, there are hundreds, probably thousands, of books. So if you are a book person, which
04:42
I am, so I get that please reached out to me to link on LinkedIn and ask for a recommendation. I mean, I'll ask you a couple of questions like, What are you looking to learn? One of the areas you want to refine? What is your learning style? Because
04:55
some books tend to be more wordy as compared to visual and give you some recommendations, so please don't hesitate to reach up.
05:01
That being said, some things that will be nice toe have, so they'll make this course a little bit easier for you. The 1st 1 is, is having completed a basic statistics course.
05:11
High school or undergraduate statistics will really help you out. Conceptually, we will certainly go over all of the concepts. It's just those courses will get you a little bit deeper.
05:23
And after I got done telling you, you don't need a book. This book understanding variation the key to managing chaos by Doctor Donald Wheeler. If you are going to buy a single lean six Sigma book,
05:41
this is the book that I would recommend.
05:44
That being said, it is not a lean six Sigma book. Dr. Wheeler was actually contemporary of Dr Demming. So you remember him from Yellow Belt? He was the focal, our hero, that helped rebuild Japan. They worked together on statistical process control. So
05:59
we're going to go through that a little bit in this course a lot in black, but when we get there. But what I really love about this book is that Dr de Means book was
06:08
it serves as a nice door stop. Dr. Wheeler was able to get the same information across and a much more concise and clear manner. So if you're crazy about statistical process control, this is the one book that I will recommend. Otherwise, reach out and we'll come to something that will help you out.
06:24
So a couple of things to keep in mind. This is the exact same structure as their yellow belt. so you'll have videos, will have quizzes and homework assignments. There are no labs and there is no project requirement. So as you look towards certification at the end of this course,
06:39
there are several certifying entities will speak to at the end. But Green built traditionally doesn't require a project.
06:46
So you're not going to need to work with your boss or one of your co workers to come up with somewhere toe. Apply these tools. That being said, I strongly recommend that you do at least apply the tools individually, even if you don't necessarily facilitate a domestic project during your course.
07:03
Um, with that today, we have gone through. What are the things you need to know getting started on your greenbelts, So prerequisites why you should listen to me and what the next course looks or what the course looks like from an overview. And our next module is going to be our lean six Sigma
07:21
ideology. So I look forward to seeing you guys there
